This is the second church in the small town of Okaihau in the far north. In early 1874 a Captain Burleigh applied to the Anglican Church Missionary Society in England to provide funds to build the first church in Okaihau. The land was donated by the owner of the general store and Totara tree timbers were used and donated. The St Catherine's church is still being used today by the local community.
