Friday skies from my rainy Autumn week

This week I've captured a few morning and evening skies... the one above is one I saw last night in a brief break from all the torrential rain we've had. The building in the background is apparently grain silos near the port.

This one is along by the beach, about 5 minutes walk from where we live...the island is named Rabbit Island I think, not sure why as I doubt there are rabbits on it but apparently you can't walk out to it.

And lastly this one is along by Pilot Bay when I was on the way to work - I couldn't resist getting a shot of the orangey sky. For more Skywatch Fridays click here and have a lovely Easter weekend :-)

First of the Autumn morning skies

Last week before heading off to work first thing in the morning I could see the skies were on their way to showing off a stunning sunrise so I grabbed my camera and headed off to the beach. This is what I snapped, the first of the Autumn skies for 2016 for us.

It's been a week or so since i last posted, not that I haven't wanted to but I've been pulling some long hours at work and by the time I get home I haven't felt like doing much of anything. My 45th birthday came and went last Friday, the other half and I celebrated it by enjoying a night out at a local Chinese restaurant. Hopefully your last week and weekend was just as nice :-)

2016 Knight's Tattoo Cup Tournament in Tauranga

Last week at the Tauranga Art and Tattoo expo we sat down outside and watched these guys mock fighting with each other. Dressed in makeshift medieval armoury the Tauranga Armoured Combat Club were competing in the Medieval Battles Tournament against other likeminded faux knights, I believe these competitors were from both Australia and New Zealand.

Looking at them I thought their armour looked quite heavy, however this article says one of them makes his own.  The winning team takes home the battle prize: The Tattoo Cup :-)

March skies and The Marina at Pilot Bay

Soooo guess who got a new camera as an early birthday present from the other half? Meeee! It's a Canon EOS 1200D so last night we went for a drive to Pilot Bay which is about 5 minutes from where we live. This one above is of another cruise ship this time it's The Marina. The ships will continue for a short time yet but usually they crop up on a regular basis over Summer.

And this one is of the sunset we watched further down Pilot Bay, seems Autumn is on it's way now as it was a little bit chilly.

A day at the NZ Tattoo Expo - Tauranga

Two weeks ago I booked tickets for us to go to the NZ International Tattoo Expo held here in Tauranga, today was the day so we excitedly spent most of the day there wandering around looking at various tattooists and their booths that were set up for people to get work done - quite a crowd.

I ended up getting another one done, as you can see from the photo below, in honour of a part of my ancestry which is Irish. I already have one on my back and plan to get some more done at some point.

Hope you've had a fab weekend :-)

Cruise ships are in town!

From where we live we are able to see which cruise ships are in town, yesterday morning I drove out to take a photo of this scene. Although it doesn't look like it, this is actually two ships not one; the Golden Princess and the Diamond Princess. Ships like this come into port all through Summer so now that it's early Autumn we probably won't be seeing these again until December.

We've been living in Greymouth nearly 2 years now and we finally got to complete this walk to the Cobden WW2 Observation Post . It too...
