ANZAC Day 2024

Photo from 2014 of Mangawhai Cadets on Anzac Day

Today for us Kiwis is ANZAC Day which is incredibly important to those of us in the southern hemisphere. This day honours those in Australia and New Zealand as it marks the anniversary of the military action fought by both forces. ANZAC meaning Australia New Zealand Army Corps. Many people gather at local war memorials to remember loved ones who have fought in all wars especially their landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula on April 25th securing a beachhead at what became known as "ANZAC Cove". Lest we forget.

My grandfather, an artist in the Australian army (not entirely sure how he ended up there!) was at Gallipoli... developed Neurasthenia...what they called ME then... probably with PTSD...The British Army shot sick people like that calling them cowards....Anzacs shipped them back as they knew that men would be needed when all that was over.
So every year I give thanks to them so that I can be here...and eat biscuits 🙂

I wanted to watch a dawn service live on YouTube but was too late. I watched a replay from Auckland. It's a moving commemoration.

The picture and your words are a fitting memorial to honor these heroes.
