The Grey River

B and I went for a short drive last week down our road and discovered the Grey River is about a 4 minute drive. This spectacular scenery is what we have virtually in our own backyard. Although poor Auckland has been under water with some serious flooding we've had 30 degree temperatures and the town is on water restrictions for those using the main water supply. Fortunately we are able to use this or stick to our water tank which we've done successfully so far, we haven't had to fill it up at all from the main town supply. It's strange that the north island and south islands seem to have swapped climates - you would expect we would be getting the opposite events that we've been having.

I remember when I was a child growing up in Auckland, many summers were spent at many of the beaches up there and we would have endless hot sunny days but now they just don't seem to have them.

The weather patterns are so strange. I can remember a few floods but I'm sure it must have been during winter.
Glad you're enjoying some sunshine. Poor Auckland and the bay . Hope the farm animals have been safe

I'm glad you are okay but sorry about the drought - I didn't realise. THe pics out of Aukland are shocking. THe airport check in (and the plane where everyone had to sleep on the runway) was unbeleivable. Like us, it seems to be one extreme or the other - would be nice for an easygoing 'normal' year.#ThruMyLens

Beautiful view.
We used to have snow around Christmas back in the day. Now if it hits it´s mostly February (uhhh, please no).

Back when we first started hearing about global warming, my son pointed out that a better term for it would be "climate change" --- (he gave me the scientific explanation for why which I couldn't explain to you if I tried) but for sure it sounds like you are seeing a good example.
(In colder weather, I still sometimes hear people say stuff like "I could use some global warming". At least I know better than that!!)
