Strawberries anyone?

So while Summer is on it's way here I happened to see someone trying to sell Strawberries a bit earlier than expected. Sundays and Mondays are B's day off so I usually venture out for a long walk while he sleeps in. A large bowl of them was priced at $20 nzd and a smaller bowl was priced at $10, bit expensive I think and not sure how sweet they would be at this time of year either.

They do sound expensive. Delicious when they are in season.

The large bowl of strawberries would cost €12 here and that is spendy.

Early strawberries might be good for jam. Are you allowed to sample one before you buy?
We have another 6 months to wait for ours.

Seriously??? I don't think i can afford to come home. I'll miss Greek strawberries at a couple of euros a kilogram for most of the summer.

Strawberries this early doesn't really seem right, but I have seen a few for sale in the supermarket. I won't be getting any until the weather is warmer and I know the fruit will be sweeter :)

...I still have a few strawberries on my ever baring plants.

I love strawberries but sometimes it pays to wait a bit.

We can get strawberries at the supermarket but they tend to be a little expensive at the moment as our season is over. There is a link about Phoohsticks in my blog but as to the history you need to read A A Milne, Whinie the Phooh

I have seen them for sale as well. Not my favourite, I would rather wait for cherries although I have seen them advertised as well and it does seem extremely early.

Not long ago we had an oversupply of ripe strawberries round $2 AU a punnet. I went for them. Nice stewed. They are not always tender and excellent more chewey oftentimes.

I would be skeptical about the sweetness too.

First harvest is pretty pricy in Finland too. When it´s season prices drop like ton of bricks. I only eat ém once a year all though I like ém. Go figure..
