Off road bus

After we came out of our first lockdown last year I drove around down backroads past the odd Marae until down a little side road was this abandoned bus that was overgrown with weeds. Seems a shame to have it sitting there empty, I'm sure there are people who would make a house out of it considering New Zealand has major housing issues, many people live in motel accommodation, in their cars, over crowded houses or in tents. The real estate market here is absolutely crazy, depending on which town or city you live in depends on the house prices. Here the average price for a basic 3 bedroom 1 bathroom house is around $600,000 NZD and we find the hardest part is saving up a deposit for a mortgage more than anything.

That's a familiar story. So many places have plenty of high price places but very, very few affordable places. It's a problem.

We like to watch Hunters including the International edition and are constantly amazed at the price of houses in many areas. Things are pretty inexpensive here. We knew a couple that worked for an airline and lived in the Los Angeles area. They visited some friends here in Tulsa and started looking at the real estate ads and thought the prices were listed were down payments. They got with realtor and decided right then and there to move to Tulsa. They said they told their friends that they were moving to Tulsa because they are giving away free houses in Tulsa.

Another major problem in home ownership here in California is the property taxes, they can easily be $6,000 and more a year. That is a forlorn looking old bus.

I've seen a programme about a Chch couple who live in a bus and travel around with two kids. It's a real home, terrific conversion .
It's a wonder someone hadn't done something with this one

I'm reminded of that abandoned bus deep in the Alaska bush that a guy who was on the run from home died in. I believe it's been removed, because it was becoming some sort of a shrine to other wanderers, and the area is dangerous to begin with if you're not prepared for it.

We are planning our return to NZ and have to say are terrified about the heat in the property market. Should have bought some land years ago but it never seemed to be the right time. There's probably a lesson about procrastination in the somewhere.

After years of driving many miles(km) the old bus has finally found it's final resting place.

...I see a number of old school buses sitting in fields, they are often used for storage. Real estate is rather inexpensive here

In your weather I might be OK with the bus as home... Maybe... ;-)

It is sad there isn't more affordable homes available. Same here, of course.

I'm sure there is someone who would love to call that home. It's too bad it just sits there.

Housing/home ownership here in the UK is not easy.

I agree, it is a shame to let it be abandoned. As it is now it destroys it´s surroundings.
