Kiwi in Paihia

My daughter and I spotted this mural in Paihia just before Christmas on the side of a phone cabinet, we have attempted to find out who painted it without luck. In case you're not familiar with Kiwi birds; they are noctural, mostly come out of the bush at night to hunt for food like worms, insects etc. They are flightless with long beaks and they are one of our protected birds.

Linking up with Mural Monday.

One big disappointment of my trip to NZ was missing the kiwi bird: we saw only one of his holes.

Generally we leave them alone to do their own thing, they are very private birds, however you can see them at Auckland Zoo.

...these boxes have become popular "canvases" for murals artists here too. This one is wonderful.

Beautiful. I have one on my arm, made by "a Kiwi". Why ever he left your beautiful country to go to Braunschweig is beyond my understanding (he wanted "something new", yes, now he freezes his butt off, LOL)

What a beautiful mural. This is incredible and so well done. I also learned about your kiwi, too because they have definitely never made it to the states.

I imagine that it would be rare to spot one in the wild. The painting is beautiful.
