A big hiccup

We have been cruising along here, people are been quite happily getting out and about feeling the freedom. I've seen friends and families shopping and enjoying coffees and local cafes - all of which is good for businesses.

Unfortunately 2 days ago we heard a news story that 2 people coming in from the UK had been given compassionate leave to attend a funeral, they were allowed to leave before the end of the supposed compulsory 14 day quarantine and hadn't been tested. By the time they got to their destination they had a test done which came back positive - I'm feeling quite angry about the stuff up as is alot of other people.

It's been said today that apparently they didn't travel by car without stopping, they got lost, had to phone an acquaintance to come and help them after which they gave this person a hug and a kiss. We are all hoping like hell here it's not going to be the start of another cluster as well have been more than 2 weeks covid free...until now.

Edited to add: Yesterday we had another person who arrived from Pakistan has also tested positive and is in quarantine. sigh.

But we have been keeping busy in our own routines. We have had Spring roses coming into my work so I will be working extra days to repot them, there's about 1000 but I don't mind.

And I made my family a custard cake, I've made these before but this one was a new recipe - link here. I try to do a spot of baking once in a while like shortbread or muffis etc - this one was quickly approved.

Hope you've had a good week. Linking up with Skywatch Friday.

Hope all goes well. I'm worried about Europe opening up again now for summer tourism, even though I don't think any country can really say yet that it's under control.

You can't take your eye off the ball for a second with this virus.

That sounds like a major cock-up by someone or other.

From this morning's news the friend then went to the gym and other places. The gym owner has gone into isolation.

I agree with you; quite angry. While the government was good out the gate, their attitude is putting everybody in jeopardy. I am glad to hear that the military will now enforce the quarantine. I'd also like to know if the people who have violated the terms of their compassionate leave will be fined or penalised.

How difficult is it to follow protocol? None of these cases would have happened if protocol had been followed correctly.

Hey don't blame us I don't think they should have been allowed to travel in the first place any more than NZ allowing people in. We still have people coming down with it and dying from it though at least the numbers are getting less and less by the week. Your country was luck to have gotten away so lightly over 40000 people here paid the ultimate price for others stupidity in bring in the virus. Never heard of custard cake, custard pie yes but not cake. Looks nice hope it tastes as good

Such a shame as NZ was doing so well. It just shows how easily this virus will rear it head again if we let our guard down. Mind you, over here in the UK the guard never really went up, for a lot of people!

Totally agree with you, as of yesterday they had another one come from Pakistan who had tested positive with it.

I hope that you can keep the outbreak contained. Things are exploding where I live. We are getting a new record of new cases every day and now Trump is coming to town and doesn't want to see any face masks and wants to pack the venue full.

Scary times. I just heard in CA that masks are required again (I think they were optional for a while, as long as you could distance). Were moving backwards!
