Anzac Day 2019

ANZAC - meaning Australia New Zealand Army Corps. A day us kiwis take each year to remember all of those who fought and died for us in all of the wars our countries have been involved in. It's particularly a day we remember the troops landing in Gallipoli in 1915.

Lest we forget.

Linking up with Skywatch Friday.

I came across the grave of a person who took part and is buried at Lyford church he died in December 1915. A nice place for a memorial

Grandpa was a war artist at Gallipoli...instead of being shot, like the English troops with shellshock/ptsd, he was in the Australian army..and invalided out with "neurasthenia", they figured that with such high casualties there was no sense in killing more...thankfully!

It's good to remember those who died for their country.

My grandson was down in Crete yesterday with his school and they visited the military museum. There was a large exhibit telling them about the NZ era and Australians who took part in the battle of Crete. There is a huge commonwealth cemetery there as well which will have an Anzac ceremony today

One of the problems with comment moderation is that if one read a post and gets distracted then comes back some hours later you may not be able to recall whether you commented or not. I though (and may have said) that I was going to wear my NZ flag on my lapel today. Anzac Day gets plenty of coverage on our news bulletins in the UK.
