Grapefruit anyone?


We've had too many gloomy winter days here so when a bit of sunshine popped it's head out from behind the clouds today we took the opportunity to walk through the neighbour and onto the beach.

Opposite our apartment is a little house on the corner and hanging on the old rickety white fence were bags laden with Grapefruit along with a clear sign - think they were being offered for $5NZD per bag, pretty cheap really but these are way too sour for my liking. Do you like them, if not what is your favourite citrus fruit?

Love grapefruit and am thankful I have friends with trees that bear more fruit than they can use. Marmalade!

I like red grapefruit (the flesh, not the peel)... they seem to be sweeter to me. They're really good fresh in Florida (we are there when it is the season for them).

I usually juice them. I like grapefruit juice. Makes for good cocktail too.

Grapefruit is wonderful. When they are sour, juice them and mix in orange juice to sweeten. Delicious!

I love the trusting nature of the sellers..."put money in letterbox"...this reminds me of my childhood in British Columbia, Canada's Okanagan Valley. People could do this, and know the right amount of money would appear in the mail box. I don't think anyone grew grapefruit there, the growing season may have been too short or the temperatures too cool, but there were orchards as far as the eye could see...apples, pears, peaches, apricots, etc. Now the orchards are gone and in their place huge houses by the thousand. So sad.

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
