It's very very dry here, so dry that a total fire ban has been introduced recently. We drove past the Waipu Cemetery yesterday, one of my favourite places full of old Scottish settlers to the area and saw these hay bales sitting on the brown grass.
Sometimes in Summer we get people calling the fire brigade even if someone has a barbeque going - in our town and many other smaller towns they have a volunteer fire brigade so anytime the siren wails the members have to put down whatever they are doing, even if they are working to go and respond to the emergency.
This year there hasn't thankfully been many times the siren has gone off, I guess the locals and holiday makers have finally gotten the message about what a fire ban means. Fingers crossed it continues until we get a good dose of rain.

It has been quite dry this year. The temperatures have come down a bit today though.
You could use a good deal of precipitation in that part of the world.
Good for the fire ban. There are always a few jerks that just got get the message so hopefully you can avoid fire. We have plenty of rain but unfortunately we can't redirect it. :(
Hope you get rain soon. We are okay here in Hamilton, but parts of the Waikato are getting as dry as you are.

Love these shots Amy.. it's a total fire ban here also. We had a fire start the other day by a spark from a wheel coming off a truck, even though the driver acted quickly he wasn't quick enough to stop it heading off into the dry bush, he called emergency right away and they caught it before it did too much damage. The guy was mortified but it's one of those unfortunate accidents. A bit of rain would be so good!
I certainly hope it stays safe there. What has happened in Australia is devastating.

I hope you get some relief soon. We've had dry years in the past with fire bans where we couldn't have camp fires when we went camping.
We finally got some rain last week after weeks of waiting. Great images of the area.

For me one of the problems with time differences and moderated comments is that I can often revisit a post I've read (like this one) and not remember whether I made a comment or not. Anyway if I didn't say it before I was going to say that I have a 'thing' about fields of bales of hay. I've tried for years in a number of countries to get (what would be for me) the perfect photo. I also have a love of old graveyards and have explored many here and in New Zealand. Particularly when on safari with Pauline.

The haystacks always move me. It's amazing to see such a landscape on the other side of the world. It's so European. I hope the heat isn't too much of a burden and that the wheat has been able to grow
The contrast between sky and golden bales is lovely. I also think the silhouetted line of trees makes the photograph very appealing.
