One of my favourite spots ever! Matauri Bay holiday park - most likely busy and full over the Summer months but quiet over Autumn and Winter, probably the perfect time to holiday when there's no one around. You can see the early morning fog rising up off the tide to the right of the photo.
News from here: my 2 are visiting their friends at the moment, they left early Thursday morning on the travel bus and will be staying with family so the apartment is quiet at the moment.

Very quiet and beautiful. When we were full-time RVers, we stayed several times in parks off-season, where we were the only people there. Sometimes it was lovely, but a couple of times it was a little spooky... don't know if it depended on my mood or the location or what exactly.

I visited Matauri Bay in February 2010 and was blown away by the view looking down on it from where the road runs along the ridge above.

I hope you liked it, it hasn't changed much over the years but still a nice quiet spot.
