Dreams of flight


At my town's local sculpture park this work by Donald Buglass is one of many pieces of artworks. Names "dreams of flight" it's a playful interactive installation by the artist and also represents deeper meanings and various metaphors of mankind's desire for exploration/collection of knowledge. The figurehead represents the Haast Eagle.

Happy New Year for 2021. Our New Year's eve came and went very quietly, no parties, no fireworks and no screaming people. It's like it eased itself in without anyone knowing and I wonder what 2022 will bring? New dreams...new understandings. I don't normally make new year resolutions but I think the following 4 will work for me:
1. Take more photos
2. Read more books
3. Blog more
4. Spend less time on social media because it's a toxic dump

I love this sculpture. So fun and symbolic.

Good luck on your resolutions. There is a way to make social media less toxic. It took a long time and it worked but now my facebook is so borriinng. But it doesn't jack my blood pressure up any longer.

What the......? I was thinking when I saw the photo. At first glance I was thinking Viking ship. But then NO. A sculture?? Not sure I liek it but at least I reacted :) :)

Great art and love the symbolism. The resolutions all make sense but F doesn't use social media (apart from my blog) so has resolved instead to waste less of everything. Let's see how that goes. She lives with Mr B - who simply doesn't get it!

Resolutions are ok if you stick to them. I don't bother to make them in the first place.
I thought the boat(sculpture) was a float for a water parent. Looks a joke to me. Happy New Year

The boat made into a piece of art is beautiful and symbolic. Like your resolutions, been off facebook for five years now. What a great difference no more BS to read. :) Happy New Year to you too. You might want to change the 2021 t0 2022, it's so easy to forget. Reminds me of checks I used to write, I'd always mess up the date. :)

  We have 2 new chickens, both black ladies. If any of you are familiar with British comedy tv shows you will recognize the names we have given them. This one is named Miss Brahms. And this one is named Mrs Slocombe. Auckland Metropolis Museum

In amongt the modern new highrise buildings in Auckland City is this smaller vintage building that is currently for sale (I'd buy it if I had the money).   My research found that:  "It was designed by English-born architect Charles Towle and erected in the early 1930s as the Church of Christ, Scientist, the building's Graeco-Roman facade has towering columns that frame its impressive entranceway, with three ornate timber doors decorated with leadlight inserts providing access to the expansive foyer. Arched ceilings dominate the former congregational high stud space beyond the foyer and numerous picturesque windows provide a light, airy feel and an ambience many office buildings lack. The building housed congregational and Sunday school services for 70 years until it was sold and converted into office space in 2003. A significant refurbishment was also carried out with care taken to ensure that the building's distinctive character remained intact. Special architectural ...

Westland Explorer's Monument

  In the nearby town of Hokitka (half an hour away) is the cemetery with this monument near the entranceway. It commemorates 4 men who lost their lives between 1863 and 1866 ; George Dobson - road engineer, murdered in 1866 Charlton Howitt - explorer, drowned in Lake Brunner 1863 Charles Townsend - drowned at Greymouth (probably in the Grey River) 1863 Henry Whitcombe - surveyor, drowned in the Taramakau River in 1863 Construction of the memorial started 1868 and the railings were added in 1869.
