Eels and flax weaving

So I saw these murals on the sides of 2 buildings in Moerewa and from what I can make out it looks like an eel on the left hand side and some flax weaving on the right side. I have been trying to find the artist but as yet no luck. (Photos taken before lockdown).

Linking up with Mural Monday.

Eels are quite fascinating. I've rarely seen them swimming. Sometimes I've seen them while snorkeling, but the most distinct time I saw them was in a stream in New Zealand. Do you have a lot of them? They are endangered.

Both murals are really quite unique and beautiful. Colorful, too. I hope you actually learn the name of the artist who created them, Amy. I'd also love to know the back story on these.

I love murals. These are great. I also love it when the artist signs the work, or leaves a web address or something like that so we can find a little more about them.

Because of an eel I was not allowed in the kitchen and learned cooking only now (my Grandma fried a fresh, cut eel, and parts jumped out of the pan to my feet "dancing" - I screamed my lungs out. I was 4 huhhhh).

Eels were so much a part of our growing up but we never ate any. They just seemed to be a feature of ponds and watercourses around home, and as kids we feared them (or were creeped out by them enough) to be very careful about where we went swimming. When the stock-water-race water supply to our pond was finally disconnected and it dried out, it revealed some absolute monster eels! (Stock water got piped in an endeavor to be more efficient about using and supplying water to livestock).

Nice and colourful murals. I'm not a fan of eels, find them very much like snakes that I'm scared of :)
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Amy.

I like them very much Amy, definitely brighten up this otherwise ordinary space between the buildings ✨

I love murals, and enjoy aking photos of them. My best friend's daughter moved to New Zealand and is working on her doctorate in a college there.
