Travels back up to the far north

Yesterday we drove back up to Kerikeri, this time there was myself, the other half and my mum came along for something to do. We looked at 2 more properties both were pretty much brand new and lovely but again it seemed like there were so many other lots of people looking too. If we aren't successful with either one we will just have to keep plodding along until we get something.

I popped into my old work and said hello to my old friends, the contract where I am currently working 1 day each week runs out next week and I am reluctant to sign a new one if we aren't going to be here so I am a bit up in the air at the moment but nothing else I can do.

We are due to get some sort of rain with thunderstorms forecast for other parts of the country, but as we saw yesterday it looks like everywhere in Northland is brown with no grass - I feel for the cattle out grazing in fields.

At least here we don't have to be out of the house by a certain date, everyone but myself has work so it's not like it's urgent - maybe we can win lotto or something but until then we just have to keep trying.

Tell me about your week...

The right place will turn up..as will the rain...
I saw a photo taken in the Waikatō last week....all brown....
This past week? Wet, stormy, jet lagged, wishing that we could stay in Whanganui for ever....unpacking, sorting, taking things to op shops to make sure they are gone!!
Watching too much TV...
We have had some rain today, so I hope you guys have had some as well. Househunting can be so frustrating, trying to find the right place before someone else gets it. I hope something turns up for you soon. Mxx

Oh wow, lots to think about your work. I am trying to retire. I thought I had it all set and then I talked to my financial planner and he had some great ideas so I had to go back and change some things and they are acting like, well you already said you wanted this, and I tell them, Yes I did and now I want to look at something else.
Plus dealing with my ill brother's hospital. That's ongoing.

Oh we had a few blissful drops of rain last night Amy, definitely not amounting to much at all but still nice after such a long period! My week has been basically trying to stay sane in this horrible hot humid weather 😊

It rained 2 times this passed week. Not enough to help the grass or garden but it did help the mozzie population.

Finally got some rain in Taranaki. It doesn't usually get brown here but it has this year, so we are happy to see it.

FYI...In looking for rentals, we have learned a bit in the last few months. There are lots of rentals that farmers/owners don't list so it helps to know some locals and ask them. If there's a local farm supply store, you might ask around there. It seems the farmers don't want to deal with people (as they would have to through an agent).
Good luck!

Auckland Metropolis Museum

In amongt the modern new highrise buildings in Auckland City is this smaller vintage building that is currently for sale (I'd buy it if I had the money).   My research found that:  "It was designed by English-born architect Charles Towle and erected in the early 1930s as the Church of Christ, Scientist, the building's Graeco-Roman facade has towering columns that frame its impressive entranceway, with three ornate timber doors decorated with leadlight inserts providing access to the expansive foyer. Arched ceilings dominate the former congregational high stud space beyond the foyer and numerous picturesque windows provide a light, airy feel and an ambience many office buildings lack. The building housed congregational and Sunday school services for 70 years until it was sold and converted into office space in 2003. A significant refurbishment was also carried out with care taken to ensure that the building's distinctive character remained intact. Special architectural ...

Family

Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. And I have a question for you; when you add your blog post to a blog meme or a blog link up, do you expect the owner of that blog to at least come back and comment on the other blogs that have linked up to it including yours even if it's only occasionally?  I actually th...

Hail

Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
