Picton Waterfront

I don't have alot of photos of Picton left, unfortunately due to a glitch with my external hard drive most of them were accidentally deleted. This was taken last April when we were in the process of driving down the north island to Greymouth. Picton is the top of the South Island where the interislander ferries berth after leaving Wellington. The carving in the photo is what's known as a Maori Pou, probably the result of a very clever local artist.

It's a small town with an approx population of around 4310 people and is a gateway to the Marlborough Sounds and Queen Charlotte Track. I would've liked to have been able to spend more time here and take more photos but we had to be on our way.

Ultra-life fish bait

On our travels from Northland to the South Island we stopped overnight in Picton which is where the Inter-Islander Ferry took us from Wellington. The following morning I took the opportunity to walk around the town taking photos (as you do) and noticed this sign - the fish bait must be good if it makes the fish live longer (just joking).

Stunning Picton Wharf on a late winter's day

Last Friday morning we were on a mission to drive to Nelson in the South Island of New Zealand. From where we are it is a 6 1/2 hour drive to Wellington, then another 2 hours on the Interislander ferry then another 2 hours to our destination.

After a busy weekend while on the ferry back to Wellington this is the sight we saw of Picton - I think it's a perfect example of how stunning our scenery here is.
