Always good to see happy people with their friends having a good chat over coffee and lunch. Seen at the local Mitre 10 coffee shop.
There was a sad bit of local news that's sent this town buzzing lately. Next to our local McDonalds building is there is a vacant building that was until recently home to a number of people living inside in separate apartments. The health department deemed it unsanitary to live in and closed it down but since then there have been local squatters living in it, one of which was found sadly dead outside the building on the ground earlier this week. I had a feeling who it was and I was correct. It has now turned into a homicide investigation with the victim being an elderly man who use to come into my work now and again who was homeless and living in the building. I had heard from someone else that they had helped him go to the local council who then gave him a granny flat to live in but, as with alot of homeless people, he preferred it seems to live on the street. It's like one of those situations in life where no matter how much a person is helped, it's like it's not going to end well no matter what. It's a very sad thing.

Sad story.
We recently came across a YouTube video discussing how many New Zealanders are leaving the country due to the rising cost of living. If that's true, it's really unfortunate. Hopefully, steps can be taken to turn things around and retain the people who call it home.
Also sad that the housing situation in Oz is as bad if not worse and even more expensive...
Tis a sad story...and quite common here in Canada too, but it's exposure to the elements that is often responsible for these deaths.
Bless him, very distressing! Hopefully whoever is responsible will be found and dealt with.
Great photo by the way, of what looks like a pretty good conversation.
Such a sad thing; he was offered a home and declined. He would have been more safe, a sad end for him.
Sad. Maybe he gave up? Maybe was depressive? Good to see those friends over a chat.
...homelessness is a global problem!
This is a beautiful candid capture.
Really sad. Not knowing what this world is coming to. A few miles from us four children were found shot. Two were dead and two have been hospitalized with critical status. The two dead were ages four and 13.
This happened near Angleton, Texas.
This site should have the latest info on the children's death and injured. Montgomery County is North of Houston, Angleton where the children were found is to the south. This news was updated two and three hours.
Very sad, it happens here too.
That is a very sad story and unfortunately not uncommon. I hope you have a great week ahead
Someone in the health dept need to get their head around 'unsanitary vs living on the street' - some joined up thinking between departments would help too. (like clean it, don't close it)
Sad to read this.
That is a sad story. We have a huge unhomed population here and some people hate them for it.
Nice candid picture but also: A sad story taking place way too often in the country where I live, too. In fact there is a homeless encampment in walking distance of where I used to work before my semi-retirement.
Looks like a nice spot, and a nice view too. As Alana said, the homeless issues are too often happening here. Sad.
