Wharerangi

Photo taken in Autumn about 5 years ago.

Napier - Wharerangi Cemetery. Opened in 1948 and is mostly dedicated to returned servicemen and women who played a part in the 1st and 2nd world wars. B and I visited here about 5 years ago to pay respects to his grandmother and her husband. This is not the entire cemetery, it's only a small part of it.

That seems like a meaningful visit; places like Wharerangi hold quiet, powerful stories, and it's moving that you took the time to honour them personally.

Hallowed ground indeed.

I always plan to visit family graves when I'm far away, then when I have the opportunity I get sidetracked by other things. Certainly visits to gravesites for my family are just formality - my memories of a person do not reside where they are buried.

Cemeteries always have such a serene and peaceful atmosphere. This is absolutely no exception.

A green and peaceful place to rest and contemplate both the past and the future.
