Chinese food

Last week we decided to order some Chinese takeaways from one of the local hotels/pubs (I won't say which one) that had been advertising for a while online. One thing that Greymouth is sadly lacking in his a decent takeaway shop and this one was just like the others, not that great. Instead of getting authentic Chinese food we were given containers of food that were a bit tasteless. In mine were what looked like 2 minute noodles instead of authentic ones. I'm missing the food we use to be able to buy in Northland. What's the worst meal you've ever ordered?

Have you tried the Cobden fish and chip shop, we found that good when we were over last, but that was a few years ago now.

Sad it was such a disappointment!
The worst we ordered was a burger - ack, twice, two different places.
Hope you have something yummy today :-)

I used to enjoy a Chinese takeaway now and again but haven't had one for ages. I have had a few bad meals but I am much better now about complaining and not just accepting poor quality.

I almost never buy takeaway food. Possibly a salad from a supermarket salad bar in summer.

Hmm, I don't have any memories of "worst food" although I am sure that I have had some bad meals over time.

You know what the answer is - start your own takeaways business.

Not much fast food here except souvlaki. Instant noodles used to be my answer for fast food. Not the best but at least it was Chinese 😅
I'm sorry you were disappointed. I hate when that happens. Your mouth is ready for a taste you love and then you get a bland xerox copy.

...I haven't had Chinese food in a while. We should get some take out.
Hard to find good Chinese food anymore. I blame the proliferation of the corporate chains, like Panda Express, which make it hard for the more authentic mom & pop places to compete.

Good Chinese is hard to find anywhere.

I don't remember the worst, but the most disappointing was a local burger place. A "must go" in all the reviews and tourist info for town. They have all sort of burger, and all kinds of meat. Bah... not very good. Plus, the tables outside are near the dumpster and the owner wouldn't stop checking on us. Still, every year it's voted "Best of the Valley."

I had a similar experience recently when I bit into some take away food and at first thought it was overly salty but turned out it was actually a lump of MSG and tasted horrible.

I also had Chinese takeaway earlier this week but thankfully it was nice and tasty. I can't recall the worst food I've ever had. Fortunately I've been lucky to get mostly good food.
We've certainly eaten our share of mediocre food over the years! Chinese takeaway can be pretty bad (and quite good when you find the right one). Worst ever for me was a seafood place where I got food poisoning. That'll make you want to never go out to eat again. (for a little while anyway ;>)
There are way too many chain and franchise restaurants here where we stay in Florida -- we have to work hard to find a good local restaurant, which is how I like to eat when we go out.

The text at down that sign warns you for that. Good luck reading it though. 😃

Auckland Metropolis Museum

In amongt the modern new highrise buildings in Auckland City is this smaller vintage building that is currently for sale (I'd buy it if I had the money).   My research found that:  "It was designed by English-born architect Charles Towle and erected in the early 1930s as the Church of Christ, Scientist, the building's Graeco-Roman facade has towering columns that frame its impressive entranceway, with three ornate timber doors decorated with leadlight inserts providing access to the expansive foyer. Arched ceilings dominate the former congregational high stud space beyond the foyer and numerous picturesque windows provide a light, airy feel and an ambience many office buildings lack. The building housed congregational and Sunday school services for 70 years until it was sold and converted into office space in 2003. A significant refurbishment was also carried out with care taken to ensure that the building's distinctive character remained intact. Special architectural ...

Family

Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. And I have a question for you; when you add your blog post to a blog meme or a blog link up, do you expect the owner of that blog to at least come back and comment on the other blogs that have linked up to it including yours even if it's only occasionally?  I actually th...

Hail

Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
