Flight centre

Another scene from near Karangahape Road in Auckland City. This one caught my eye because in this part of town there seems to be nearly every building that has posters glued to it advertising promotions. Whenever we have travelled we have never had to use travel agents, in fact I've been reading news stories lately about how they've mucked up peoples tickets or itineraries. I don't know if they really do - have you ever used a travel agent? I think it's just as easy to book your own tickets, in fact we are about to book ours for another trip to Auckland in November as my oldest son and his partner are getting married.

Edited to add: I've just discovered in my blogger spam folder hundreds of unpublished comments, my apologies for that, no idea why they were in there but it's been sorted now.

I was glad that I sold all the flight centre stocks early in the year. It is the most shorted stocks in Australia.

We used to use a travel agent. He was very good, got us some good deals. Once online booking came along we did it ourselves.

We use a travel agent only when we travel in a big group of friends.

Work insists I use their travel agent for work travel - fortunately relatively rare because it is always a palaver and I'd have been quicker and more efficient doing it myself and being in control of the results.

I can't recall ever having used a travel agent, but then I've never really travelled all that much. To me it just seems to have got more complicated lately rather than less so, though. Not a live person left anywhere to ask, if what you find online doesn't make sense...

I used to use travel agents exclusively (in days before internet was an every day use). These days I still use an agent if he/she will book the cheaper tickets for me. I like using them for value added services but I also do book my own. It just depends.
I think I would have a hard time even finding a travel agent in my area. It seems they've all gone out of business.

I don't think I have ever used a travel agent at all.

The travel agent we've been using is very reliable, and I find it more convenient than doing it on my own because I'm a bit lazy about it.

In all the years I travelled for fun or in the decade I 'commuted' to New Zealand I never ever used a travel agent.

I think travel agents are useful when you are planning something complicated but for just routine travel I don't think they are necessary.

Auckland Metropolis Museum

In amongt the modern new highrise buildings in Auckland City is this smaller vintage building that is currently for sale (I'd buy it if I had the money).   My research found that:  "It was designed by English-born architect Charles Towle and erected in the early 1930s as the Church of Christ, Scientist, the building's Graeco-Roman facade has towering columns that frame its impressive entranceway, with three ornate timber doors decorated with leadlight inserts providing access to the expansive foyer. Arched ceilings dominate the former congregational high stud space beyond the foyer and numerous picturesque windows provide a light, airy feel and an ambience many office buildings lack. The building housed congregational and Sunday school services for 70 years until it was sold and converted into office space in 2003. A significant refurbishment was also carried out with care taken to ensure that the building's distinctive character remained intact. Special architectural ...

Family

Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. And I have a question for you; when you add your blog post to a blog meme or a blog link up, do you expect the owner of that blog to at least come back and comment on the other blogs that have linked up to it including yours even if it's only occasionally?  I actually th...

Hail

Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
