Too early for Christmas

Lots of news this week from me. We have adopted this male Cockatiel as his elderly owner has gone into a care home. He didn't have a name so we have named him Hooligan. So far he's been pretty quiet but that's probably because he doesn't know us. Hopefully in time he will be a bit more talkative and noisy.

I was at one of our local stores, The Warehouse and noticed that their Christmas displays are up. Is it too early for this? Being November I think so. Mind you I am happy that there is no Christmas music being played just yet.

And this bunch of lettuce is what I harvested from my small vege garden. It's been so yummy putting bits and pieces into my lunch that I take to work. Speaking of work last week I handed in my notice to my manager. I've been doing supermarket retail for about 5 years now and working the hours of 12pm to 9pm has been pretty regular for me so I'm at the point where I'm a little bit over it. I am starting in a new job on New Year's day at our local RSA (returned services association like for veterans) doing barwork and admin duties which will make a nice welcome change and the hours are pretty good too.

You know how sometimes it's not what you know but who you know? Two people from the local RSA come into work regularly to buy meat packs for their raffles and a while back I got talking to 1 of them who said he was leaving. I mentioned that I was interested in working there and the next day he came back and asked me to go and see his manager which I did who then offered me a job there, so it's worked out quite well. I'm excited for a change.

That is exciting. A whole different job and new workmates. Christmas is well and truly here. I tried to get a Christmas slot at a supermarket to collect the meat I wanted to find they had no availability nor did they have the meat I wanted! 7 weeks before Christmas and I thought I would be too early not too late.

Congratulations! The new job sounds so much better. Hope you're happy there.
Xmas bits and pieces have started appearing here but not enough to get excited about. I can wait!
Hooligan, great name. Hope he doesn't live up to it lol

I must sound like Scrooge but I object to having the commercial aspects of Christmas shoved at us for months. The religious aspect is where my focus lies.
Thanks for sharing at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2023/11/my-happy-places.html and good luck with the new job!
Yes it should be december before cristmastree comes out from the hidden place

Congrats on the new job - I hope it goes well and you enjoy it. Shame that when people go into care homes their non-human companions cannot go with them. Lucky Hooligan that he has someone to take him in and give him a good home. (He can torment the cats....)

Congrats on the new job. Hope it works out well for you. I'm counting the days to December 1st as I don't let myself put up decorations any earlier. Although I always want to!

Auckland Metropolis Museum

In amongt the modern new highrise buildings in Auckland City is this smaller vintage building that is currently for sale (I'd buy it if I had the money).   My research found that:  "It was designed by English-born architect Charles Towle and erected in the early 1930s as the Church of Christ, Scientist, the building's Graeco-Roman facade has towering columns that frame its impressive entranceway, with three ornate timber doors decorated with leadlight inserts providing access to the expansive foyer. Arched ceilings dominate the former congregational high stud space beyond the foyer and numerous picturesque windows provide a light, airy feel and an ambience many office buildings lack. The building housed congregational and Sunday school services for 70 years until it was sold and converted into office space in 2003. A significant refurbishment was also carried out with care taken to ensure that the building's distinctive character remained intact. Special architectural ...

Grace Brothers

We have 2 new chickens, both black ladies. If any of you are familiar with British comedy tv shows you will recognize the names we have given them. This one is named Miss Brahms. And this one is named Mrs Slocombe. At the moment we have them in a temporary shelter next to the Special Patrol Group that we've had for the last 9 months just so they can get to know each other before we intigrate the black ones in with the brown ones. These ones give us a white coloured egg whereas the brown shavers give us brown coloured eggs. Linking up with  Tuesday Treasures ,  Happy Tuesdays  and   Wordless Wednesday .

Vondel

I nthe heart of Devonport in Auckland is this little block of businesses. In my younger days I worked in this suburb as a legal typist for lawyers and to see it now as it is, it's made many changes over the years. This building is surrounded by older style buildings in the main street with businesses such as shoe shops, clothing shops, professionals, cafes, bars, restaurants etc. It's a very upmarket suburb with quite expensive houses along the waterfront. Vondel in the above photo is a restaurant but upon looking up their website, there wasn't alot of information about who they are. Linking up with  Weekend Reflections   and the  Weekend Roundup .
