Ngakawau Tavern

On the outskirts of Westport just past Granity is this building named the "Ngakawau Tavern" just near the Stockton Mines. Apparently it use to be known as the "Charming Creek Tavern" due to it being close to the Charming Creek walkway. It didn't look too busy when we drove past but there is a sign on the building saying that rooms are $50 per night, so pretty cheap.

Linking up with Weekend reflections and the Weekend roundup.

Looks like a nice place to stop and stay. Excellent room price too.

I love these old hotels (to look at more than stay in!) and the South Island seems to have so many more than we have up here.

Wow just 50 dollars a night is too good to be true.

That sounds like an excellent deal!

That would be cheap.

I like the looks of your find. When places get old they still can have purpose. Some are honored and even protected dedicated as some place special. I have a son living in a 1928 house. Any improvements or major repairs he makes must be similar to original.
No picture yet, maybe next time I go to the medical center I'll swing by.BTW, his wife from Venezuela has just attained U,S, citizenship.
Oh yes, I'd stay at the old tavern.

...$50 a room is an unheard of price here!

A lovely classic kiwi hotel. Sort of place I'd like to stay in if I ever visit
