Lest we forget

On Greymouth's main road on the way into town is this monument dedicated to those locally who fought in the first world war between 1914 - 1918.

It's a substantial monument and the inscription on the bottom says "Remember with thanksgiving the truth and faithful men who in the years of the great war 1914-1918 went forth for God and right".

Lest we forget.

Linking up with Weekend reflections and the Weekend roundup.

Sad we have to remember - it should never have happened in the first place, why can´t we live in peace.

Just look at Russia... men with a brain try to flee...

There are very few left who lived back then. So we need reminders like this to remember those died.

We had a turmoil back then too. It was related to revolution in Russia. We gain independece due that happening. Now Putin wants us become subordinate of Russia yet again. Well, it ain´t gonna happen, other than in Putin´s daydreams.

The "Great War" was neither great, nor the war to end all wars. We need to study history so as not to repeat it. This is what makes the war in Ukraine so terrible. Once again one country has invaded another for all the wrong reasons.

Sadly, we don't seem to learn from history.

That's a nice monument. I don't know where a WWI monument is around here in Texas. Google knows, one in the Sam Houston Park and another is with the Battleship Texas moored adjacent to the Houston Ship Channel.
