Mining Mural

This mural is of the side of the road in the next street away from home. Painted by local artist Mark Haldane aka RAJA on the front and sides of a utility box, at first I thought it was some sort of futuristic scene but upon further examination I discovered it depicts a mining scene which is common with Greymouth's overall history of gold and coal mining.

Linking up with Mural Monday.

It's a great way to make those eyesore boxes an aethetic as well as practical value to the community

It also seems to discourage these boxes from getting tagged.

It's a great idea to add proper artwork to such places rather than just leave them to random graffiti.

Interesting how mining images segue into something almost abstract. Credit to the artist.

How intriguing to learn the true story of this utility box. It's certainly uncannily beautiful.
