In the clouds

This is the main highway between Taupo and Napier, we drove up through mountains so high that it felt like we were driving in the clouds.

Lots of Autumn colours and a bit of a drop in a cooler temperature, apparently the road use to be a very windy gravel one that took alot longer, B remembers being in the car with his parents in the 1960s and 1970s when they lived in Whakatane and had to drive to Napier to visit his grandad.

All up it took us about 90 minutes for the drive when it use to take at least 2 hours or more before this part of the road was made.

Linking up with Skywatch Friday and Timeless Thursdays.

I don't remember the gravel, but I do recall all the roadworks involved when they were "improving" the road and how often we had to stop and wait for the big machines and trucks that were working there. It has been a few years now since I was last on that road, but I remember enjoying the drive.

...what a beautiful road, but I'd have a awful time driving on the left.

This made me laugh. When I came home from our first 6-months-journey from Australia I hopped in the car... drove on the "correct" side of the road, turned right and... BINGO!!!! Drove on on the left side of the road!!!! - Germany is on the right side and it luckily was Ingo´s place, a village - I got honked at. Uhhhh. I seldom was that concentrated driving to my parent´s place!
Now... I haven´t been driving for three years at all and boy. I may be confused where to drive.. left, right??? But how boring would life be, eh?

Beautiful captures of the sky.

Looks like a beautiful drive, although I would have a rough time to adapting to driving on the opposite side of the road! I've heard stories that, before the main highway leading out to the high desert was paved, it used to be a two DAY drive from the LA area (now it's 3 hours).

Greetings and Salutations! Enjoyed the cyber tour of the clouds on the road. We did similar on a road in Maui. What fun!
