Open 7 days

This is one of the local cafes situated on the road next to the Grey River and they serve mostly vegan and vegetarian food - I haven't tried their coffees yet but maybe that's something for me to do at some point. I'm glad they can handle being open 7 days a week, as for me I'm working 6 days this week because work is expected to me so busy. I'm kind of sad that next week will my last week working in supermarket retail after doing it on and off over the years since I was 18 years old but it feels like it's time for something new.

I did however manage to harvest some broccoli out of my vegetable/herb garden but we gave it to a work colleague who has been generous in giving us free range eggs from his chickens every week. It's neat when you can swap food with other people isn't it?

Lastly it's not often I see my doctor but I have done so twice in the last 2 months. Once was to get the flu vaccine and the other was to get another type of vaccine. As many of you have been reading my posts you would've seen that Winter this year was not good - I was sick just about every week with a different bug each time and in the end I got quite run down and exhausted. The 2nd vaccine I got was one my doctor suggested which was a 3 in 1 consisting of whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus. The 100 day cough that goes around here is part of the whooping cough so I'm hoping next year I will be alot more better off

Having friendly neighbours is wonderful. We exchange eggs, fish, garden produce and K fixes small appliances. It's a great system and having someone hand half a dozen eggs 'over the fence' just makes our day

Strict vegan food is trendy. But they seem to be more pricey for some reasons

Not many people here have gardens that grow veggies. Maybe because it rains so much and we don't get lots of sun.

Hope the vaccines will keep you healthy throughout the next year (or however long they're supposed to be efficient). I've been told I had whooping cough before I was 1 years old - I had just learned to walk but then stopped because of coughing so much. (Of course I don't remember any of that myself, though.)

Joining you from Mosaic Monday! So sorry to hear that you have been ill. I hope that the coming year is better for you. We don't have veggies to swap with our neighbors, but my husband is a marvelous cook, and that is his love gift to our neighbors!

It's storming outside ... how cozy I can sit here at the PC and write comments. I can well understand your sadness about leaving the supermarket. Rest assured, there are also nice things to do in retirement. I am practicing it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your fragile health that the cough will pass and that the vaccinations will help you prevent anything worse.

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
