Mopeds and Cats

What's been happening here in the last week? My daughter finally got her license and bought herself a moped to get to work. It's been good for her confidence.

I had to rescue Tiger from one of the fence posts outside. sigh. Of course mummy will wait on him hand and foot.

And I can't believe these 2 are sitting on the same windowsill without sniping at each other. Of course it had something to do with birds on the grass. Now that we are into Spring we are still having cold nights but warm days with frost outside in the mornings. But....we have some sad news. Unfortunately Floki was hit by a car a few days ago while trying to cross the road. He was the only one of the 4 cats that was still young and wandered. As much as we tried to stop him wandering we couldn't watch him all the time. Luckily the lady that hit him stopped and let us know while apologizing. Its just one of those things right? So we are trying to adjust to having 3 cats and not 4. RIP Floki.

We used to have four cats back in the 90s and they got along fine. Also had three dogs so we had a full house. They all got along and had their own way about doing things. It was fun to watch. Sorry to hear about the loss of Floki. Nice moped your daughter got, hope she enjoys it.

Tiger looks regal! It is down a memory lane to ride a moped!

Tiger looks confused on the fence. Perils of sitting on the fence 😉
Sorry to hear about Floki.

Poor Floki. It's a sad day when a pet dies. Harder still if it was killed by a car.

Congratulations to your daughter. I started .you time as a road user on a small motor bike. The freedom it gave me was a feeling I will always remember. So sad to hear of the demise of Floki. Losing a pet it always hard.

Amy - I am so very very sorry to read that you lost one of your feline family is such horrible circumstances. We know the heartache, and it could only be worse when it is a young cat with so much for you all to look forward to. Hold the others close and feel their warmth. xxx Tigger's Mum

Good news to your daughter. Am sorry for your loss though.
Oh poor Floki -- I'm so sorry. That's a really fun looking moped, congrats to your daughter... nothing like the independent feeling of being able to drive "all by yourself." (I was late in getting my driver's license also and I actually remember that feeling...it's still been a looong time ago!)

Auckland Metropolis Museum

In amongt the modern new highrise buildings in Auckland City is this smaller vintage building that is currently for sale (I'd buy it if I had the money).   My research found that:  "It was designed by English-born architect Charles Towle and erected in the early 1930s as the Church of Christ, Scientist, the building's Graeco-Roman facade has towering columns that frame its impressive entranceway, with three ornate timber doors decorated with leadlight inserts providing access to the expansive foyer. Arched ceilings dominate the former congregational high stud space beyond the foyer and numerous picturesque windows provide a light, airy feel and an ambience many office buildings lack. The building housed congregational and Sunday school services for 70 years until it was sold and converted into office space in 2003. A significant refurbishment was also carried out with care taken to ensure that the building's distinctive character remained intact. Special architectural ...

Family

Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. And I have a question for you; when you add your blog post to a blog meme or a blog link up, do you expect the owner of that blog to at least come back and comment on the other blogs that have linked up to it including yours even if it's only occasionally?  I actually th...

Hail

Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
