Bicycle yarn bombing





June 1st was the first day of Winter for us - now we are into chilly nights and nippy mornings. We are up in the top of the north island so we don't get snow, it's pretty mild here. Yesterday I decided to bite the bullet and go further than I normally do with my walks - I ended up doing about 5kms in a loop from start to finish so I felt pretty good about my achievement.

Anyway the crochet coloured bicycle is something I spotted at one of our local cafes last time we were there a week ago. Here in NZ people cover trees usually with crochet creations called "Yarn Bombing" and when we lived in Tauranga we saw it alot there so I was pleasantly surprised by this - a bike is definitely different.

We are moving into summer ~ but your header photo is gorgeous and what a bicycle ~ love the idea of Yarn bombing ~ so creative and colorful ^_^

this yarn bombing is a very strange custom, not very common in our latitudes. But this bicycle becomes almost an art object...

I was amused the first time I saw a tree "knitted". I forget if that was up north a bit or in Wellington. I wish I had some more woolies on now.

Lamp posts and bike racks are the choice near where I live. Cyclists have a heck of a job trying not to get their bikes tangled in the coverings.
That bicycle looks nice and warm - more than it is in Melbourne

I didn't use to like yarn bombing, thought it looked tatty but recently I've seen 'your' bike and Chris's tree in her 'dietcoke rocks'blog and changed my mind.
The bicycle is a great attraction.

Very cool looking bike. In the last town we lived in, Killybeg, the local hospital had a bike like this displayed in their lobby. Our temps are lower than your winter temps today, 12C. This weekend it's supposed to warm up in to the 20s.

Well that's a new one on me. There were plenty of seats and traffic bollards etc like that in the Napier area but a bike is far more interesting.

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
