Humid Summer Evenings




We are at that time of year where the nights and early evenings are becoming humid and dry. Christmas is nearly upon us and people are preparing for that one day where shops close. It's amazing how they freak out - I see some astronomically huge trolleys coming through - it makes me wonder how those who don't have money manage financially.  We have huge lines of people waiting to go through checkout, workers monitoring them so people don't push in, people waiting in the carpark before 7am when the shops open, people trying to get in the side doors early and banging on the front doors - crazy!

Do people behave the same way where you are at Christmas?

From time to time, and from location to location. Some people are civilized about it. Others are not.

I'd rather just get past Christmas. It's not an ideal day for me.

Oh yes they thing that the shops will run out the next day and go mad. All I can say is they must have a lot of people comming around for a meal.
I do like your photo it makes up for all the idiocy

The only queues I've seen here are at the post offices to post parcels going off to the mainland and foreign parts. By queues I mean three or four people!

Beautiful capture, Amy. People here are pretty civilized when shopping. Most of the shopping we do are in small shops so there isn't a lot of roonm to act unruly. Grocery shopping in a bigger store can be a pain, long lines and lots of people. I never look forward to that. The smaller stores don't always have what you are looking for and if they do, it can be expensive.

We always do our supermarket shop at New World first thing on Saturday after going to the Growers Market and walking the dog. Usually just after 7 a.m. Last Christmas we got there at about 7.15 and it was packed.We managed to get a trolley and were almost finished when our trolley disappeared while we were choosing something. We spent ages hunting for it and in the end we had to get a new trolley and do the whole shop again. This year we will hold on to the trolley. I often wonder whether the person who took our trolley really wanted the cat food, dog food and everything else that we had carefully chosen.

Yes, things are crazy here too. I understand why online shopping is so popular. Traffic is terrible and people are pushy and stressed. It's all part of the holiday shopping experience!!

We have similar things here and it is kind of depressing. My wife and I have very few big wants so we struggle to come up with Christmas lists and just settle for clothes. I have a pretty decent laptop and a good camera with a few lens and I am just happy with a clam with all that.
I love hearing about it getting warm down under. We have several flat earthers here and I always wonder how they would explain that.

I live waaaaay outside any city and Hubby and I just do a picnic on Christmas Day. I don't know where you work but I can't imagine what you put up with!

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. And I have a question for you; when you add your blog post to a blog meme or a blog link up, do you expect the owner of that blog to at least come back and comment on the other blogs that have linked up to it including yours even if it's only occasionally?  I actually th...

Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
