What's washed up this week?


Sometimes I like to walk along the beach and check out some of the life that's washed up. This curious concoction (above) is something that intrigued me, I can see shells underneath but not sure what the red blobs or the white bubbles are up on top.


Sea lettuce attached to shells doesn't surprise me. Every Summer around January this green stuff gets washed up over the waves, sometimes it's a bit of a pain.


Different kinds of seaweed and sponge get washed up, I like the ones that you can pop with your fingers.


This lone starfish was all by itself, seems something might have had a munch on the ends before the tide bought it up to the beach.

Great photos. I like the seaweed you can pop with your fingers as well. Hubby calls them sea grapes (a fun name). That first photo looks like somebody cooked a bunch of bay scallops and put a silver pearl in the middle of it. I will pass on a taste of it :)

Being from 'above' the equator, I find the phrase "Every Summer around January" a bit intriguing.

That first thing is a bit gnarly, I feel compelled to find a stick and flip it over. You get some cool stuff on your beaches, starfishes and sponges don't normally make it this way.

Interesting finds on the beach. The starfish looks like it had seen better days. I like looking for sea glass, the different colours are nice to find. You gets lots of clear, some green, brown and occasionally blue and if you're lucky, red.

I agree Amy, treasure hunting when the tide recedes can turn up some weird and wonderful treasuures 😊 Apart from that it's just fab being on the beach!

maybe the white bulbs are some kind of eggs, but the red stuff, Have no clue.

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
