Rainy skies, gulls and crayfish


On our Sunday walk this morning it was good to get outside in the fresh air, not alot of other people at the beach. View from the Mount Maunganui cenotaph of Rabbit Island.


Very quiet...sort of overcast drizzly weather.

 
These guys seemed to enjoy it though, lots of gray gulls and seagulls trotting along the sand in the low tide.


We wondered why there were so many of them here and there, turned out there was a pile of crayfish bits that someone had left behind, it must've been a feast.

That's the best part of a Winter beach -(in Oregon) - no crowds and the overcast feeling is kind of pleasant as long as you have warm enough clothing ... here a least. Of course Florida is subtropical and the beaches are croweded all winter. I like the Oregon ones better, but I don't like being cold every day.

I like going to the beach in the off season. You get to have the beach all to yourself.

I looove going to the beach during rainy seasons. We have tons of beaches here in the Philippines and summer makes it too crowded so I alwasy find peace on beach visits during December until February when it is cooler here. Thank you for your shots, they give me peace while viewing them

I've never been on a completely deserted Mt Maunganui beach (except once very late in the evening when I was staying nearby) but one of the beauties of New Zealand (and Lewis) is that you can stroll for miles (or kilometres) down a beach and never see anyone.

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
