The Sun Princess





Every year from October through until about April we have International cruise ships coming in and out of Tauranga Harbour.

This morning, while dropping my daughter off to the bus stop I spotted this baby coming in accompanied by the coast guard boat. The Sun Princess was built in 1995 and operated by Princess Cruises, it cost US $300 million, has 15 passenger decks and can take 2010 passengers. It's based in Australia and frequents NZ, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

I have never been on a cruise ship. No sure I would enjoy that kind of travel but they must look impressive as they come into harbour.

It's like having a whole new city pull into port! I bet they really change the dynamics of your town.... I never even thought about your area having these visitors... but I can see why people would want to visit. I'd love to as well,but not by cruise ship.

yes I'm with you on that one, I think a cruise ship I would get bored too quickly of not being on solid ground. At least on land you can drive around in a car.

I have never done Princess Cruises, maybe someday. Going on to another cruise in 2 weeks time and I cannot wait.

That's a lot of people to drop into town all at once! In response to the discussion above... I've done a cruise - it's a good way to see far-apart places that you want to visit but are happy not to spend too much time in - or as a taster to find places you definitely do want to go back to. :)

We sailed on the Island Princess through the Panama Canal earlier this year. I love cruising, but I am not a fan of seeing the big ships in any port.

Family

  Photo taken Spring 2024 in Auckland We have been invited to a family reunion in June 2026 which will be held in Auckland so I'm looking forward to catching up with relatives that I haven't seen in over 10 years.  This week we have: Had a good chat with a friend who has also adopted a rescue dog - must arrange a play date. I've bought some non alcoholic liqueurs to mix up for mocktails which have been very nice as I don't really drink. We had a massive wind storm 2 days ago, we were ok but a good friend who lives 20 minutes away had a bolt of lightning strike her house, the result was a blown up power box inside and part of her kitchen got burned, she had to call out the fire brigade to put it out. Hail

  Spring is throwing out some strange weather right now. We don't get snow where we live but it is visible on some of the mountains around us over Winter. Last week around 4.30am we had a very loud thunderstorm with hail. It wasn't until an hour or so later my daughter said this is what she saw out on our deck.  Clumps of hail all over the deck and on her hand. Apparently various other suburbs around town got it too.
