Christmas lights are up early

Most people put their Christmas lights and decorations up in December, right? After a beach walk on Sunday night I was on my way home and spied this house around the corner from ours brightly lit up and decorated with lights including two reindeers in the front yard. I enjoy seeing how people decorate their houses differently from each other but it's very stereotypical that Christmas is all about snow and cold and winter. Here in NZ we have Summer, beaches, barbeques and hot weather - I'd love to see some decorations and lights that suit us down under.

Think I'll get our lights out in a couple of weeks...

  2. Maybe the snow and sleighs are now traditional in NZ. Goodness knows where those santa type sleighs come from in Britain, I have never in my life seen one here!

  5. Already? Way to early I think. But I have seen shops doing it already.
When I visted NZ many years ago in november I bought some decorations for my christmas tree. It was lamb and kivi birds. And I also found santa in shorts on a beach :) I still have them.

  7. Lights are nice to see. I don't think I could adjust to a warm Christmas season but I would like to try it once to see what it's like.

  8. You know, I was thinking the same thing when I saw your photo. It seems like you should have a more summer-like display of lights. I have a neighbor who put up their decorations the week after Halloween. I couldn't believe it.

  9. Alas, Christmas is a "northern hemisphere" theme. I still like the Santa Claus in shorts and jandals holding a BBQ spatula (saw it at a house dressed up a year or so ago).
