One of those days...

I'm one of those people that finds being near water or getting out for a walk quite refreshing especially when I have things on my mind.

On my beach walk this morning a piece of old mussel shell caught my attention with the way the colours reflected the sun's rays.

This leaf lying on the sand was being buried by the sand being swept across the beach by the wind, I think it's probably the last of the Autumn leaves.

Someone had tried to make a hut on the edge of the sand near the grasses but I'm not sure how warm it would've been.

A thought for the week is that I'm not sure how many of you know but I work in customer service. I get to meet some really lovely people but sometimes I also meet some very thoughtless rude folk. I like my job and what I do but sometimes it really can get me down, after all I'm only human. Next time you are in a shop say hi or smile at the person serving you, it could make their day :-)

Hi Amy, don't let those bad-mannered people affect your day! Cheer up see our posts and be glad, we photographers and gardeners are kind and cheerful people. Anyway, i love your minimalist finds there. In that expanse of the shore vegetation i can see lots of photog subjects. I hope to see NZ again. I fondly remember our small hike at Waiheke Island and in Rotorua.

Super shots Amy and I absolutely agree, living by the coast is wonderful, that sea breeze is perfect for blowing away the cobwebs ☺ I know it's hard when people are rude but that's their problem not yours.

Wonderful words of advice. I always try to be as friendly as possible. It makes things go so much more smoothly. I love the beach shots.

Hi Amy, Love your beach shots. Don't envy you working in customer service when the grumpy buggers turn up. They are everywhere, aren't they? I sometimes wish I could explain to them that life is so much better if you are polite and smile.

I can't even begin to understand what it's like not living near water.

As for smiling and being nice to people it can get one into trouble these PC days. If a man smiles at a woman it can be deemed sexual harassment. I have always smiled at people and until recent years have never shied from giving people compliments (not flattery - that is worthless). Recently I was dealt with by a lady with the most delightful smile doing a difficult job. I complimented her on her smile and then, realising what I'd done, said 'I'm sorry I'm not supposed to say you have a lovely smile these days' to which she simply responded 'You can tell me that any day as many times as you want.' Perhaps there is hope.

what a lovely thing to say Graham :-) I think sadly the world has gone a bit mad with it's political correctness hasn't it?

Having had recently been the one being a bad customer, I feel guilty about snarling at the customer service person I was dealing with.

I think it's a difficult issue Amy. I have never balked from trying to make people happy and I long ago got to the age when I thought no one could possibly think that such a statement could be considered flirtatious or offensive and I've never ever experienced a problem. However the papers are full of women complaining that such comments are offensive and I've become wary. I find that very sad. I suspect no one ever compliments men so they have nothing to complain about!

Good point!

I do try Amy! My mom had a tendency to be snappish to strangers and it made me sad when I was a child. So I work hard not to be that way. I am sure you are great at your job and I'd lay bets that almost all your customers love dealing with you -- I can always feel your smile in your posts!

Walks (or ambles) anywhere are therapeutic for me, and a beach is the best (but I don't live close enough to do that whenever I need therapy -- which can pretty much be daily ;>).
