The Sun Princess - welcome to Cruise Boat season

Every year from October through until about April we have International cruise ships coming in and out of Tauranga Harbour.

This morning, while dropping my daughter off to the bus stop I spotted this baby coming in accompanied by the coast guard boat. The Sun Princess was built in 1995 and operated by Princess Cruises, it cost US $300 million, has 15 passenger decks and can take 2010 passengers. It's based in Australia and frequents NZ, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

  1. I have never been on a cruise ship. No sure I would enjoy that kind of travel but they must look impressive as they come into harbour.

  2. It's like having a whole new city pull into port! I bet they really change the dynamics of your town.... I never even thought about your area having these visitors... but I can see why people would want to visit. I'd love to as well, but not by cruise ship.

    1. yes I'm with you on that one, I think a cruise ship I would get bored too quickly of not being on solid ground. At least on land you can drive around in a car.

  3. I have never done Princess Cruises, maybe someday. Going on to another cruise in 2 weeks time and I cannot wait.

  5. That's a lot of people to drop into town all at once! In response to the discussion above... I've done a cruise - it's a good way to see far-apart places that you want to visit but are happy not to spend too much time in - or as a taster to find places you definitely do want to go back to. :)

  6. We sailed on the Island Princess through the Panama Canal earlier this year. I love cruising, but I am not a fan of seeing the big ships in any port.
